The Royal family learned, with a deep emotion and a great sadness, acts of violences made against monks and Buddhist temples in several town of Burma, reported these last days in the international media.

Faithful to the Constitution of the Kingdom of Laos of May 11, 1947 - which proclaims in its article 7 that “Buddhism is religion of State” and that “the King is the high guard” - the Lao Royal Family solemnly invites the protagonists in Burma’s crisis to immediately stop all violences against the members of the Buddhist clergy and to show tolerance and compassion.
Against military or police oppression, monks can answer only by peaceful attitudes, suffering and death. There is no glory on people without defense.

Deeply attached to the Buddhist religion, that Lao people and neighbors Burmese have, the Lao Royal family invites the various parts to seek a peaceful solution in this conflict, and not to make act of violence against the monks who do nothing but peacefully translate the feelings and the aspirations of the population.

In the name of the Buddhist, principles for South-East Asia people, the Lao Royal family calls for the immediate release of the arrested monks these last days so that they can regain their pagodas, which are places of prayers, freedom, tolerance and mutual respect.

The Royal family Lao, represented by the Regent, HRH Prince Sauryavong SAVANG, and the Heir to the Throne of LaneXang, HRH Prince Soulivong SAVANG, greets the efforts of the international community in the search for an acceptable solution for all, and supports unreservedly all initiatives to find a fast, peaceful solution in Burma.
